Myths & Facts

Skincare Myths vs. Facts

We are bombarded with overly exaggerated claims that all skincare products out there make your skin instantly fabulous! Read the following MYTHS vs. FACTS. These myths are pretty common even among the skin salon professionals. Premiere Skincare line takes a scientific approach to creating healthy skin.

Myth: Acne is caused by chocolate and greasy foods, by dirt or by indigestion.
Fact: Acne flare-ups are usually caused by a hormone called DHI testosterone. At the same time, acne-prone skin produces hard, keratin-loaded skin cells at 4-5 times the normal rate. Certain kinds of bacteria, called anaerobes, thrive in pores where there is no oxygen, and they irritate surrounding skin.
Suggestions:
-Stay clear of high iodine foods such as asparagus, turkey, broccoli, white onions, tortilla chips, iodized salt.
-Use benzoyl peroxide for 3 months to soften the skin, exfoliate excess cells, kill the bacteria and reduce inflammation.
-Use Premiere Blemish Control over the affected area. (leave on) morning and night.
- Use Premiere Purifying Masque 3-4 times a week.
- Use Premiere Oil Free Moisturizer while acne condition persists.

Myth: All cleansers and moisturizers can be used near the eyes.
Fact: Eye creams, eye oils, eye area cleansers and firming eye gels are made specifically for use around the eyes. These products are void of certain dyes prohibited by the FDA for use around the eyes. These products, although moisturizing, are also void of the moisture ingredients that penetrate or irritate delicate eye tissue. Use products near your eyes that are designated only for your eye area.

Myth: Pores open and close.
Fact: Pores never open and close. If your pores close, you won’t be around because your body breaths through the skin. Astringent-based products cause the tissue around the pores to swell, leaving the impression that the pores have shrunk. Daily and weekly masking removes excess dead cells giving a more refined appearance. In your teens or twenties, cells renew themselves at a rapid pace, about one layer per day. With age, cell renewal slows down gradually, so the older you get, the more you need to plump skin and remove dead cells. When you do, your skin appears to have smaller pores. Pore size is also determined by your ethnicity; i.e., Latin skin has larger pores than a Scandinavian skin.  Back to top

Myth: Lines come because of age and dry skin.
Fact: Lines are creases in the skin caused by a thinning of the collagen, or supporting tissue, of the epidermis. Dry skin does not cause wrinkles; it only makes them more noticeable. The skin can be torn down in many ways before we reach 30. The sun’s ultra-violet rays penetrate the stratum corneum to the dermis, causing damage that appears 10-20 years later. Lines are an accumulation of excess dead cells.   Masks remove excess dead cells. In addition, masks can brighten, firm, clean and moisturize skin. The need for a weekly and a daily mask has increased dramatically due to the negative effect the environment has on skin.

Myth: Foundation clogs pores.
Fact: Base makeup/foundation covers the skin and becomes the ultimate protection for the skin. Foundation does not clog the pores. Pigment is the ultimate skin protection. A thin film of foundation insulates the skin and protects it from damage. Our tinted Moisturizer (Pre-Make up Nude) is a good alternative for those who do not like to wear a more pigmented foundation base.
